Car Rental at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport

Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is served by numerous rental car agencies. Each of these companies has a full-service rental information and reservations center located on the lower level of the main terminal hall. Passengers arriving at the airport can confirm their vehicle rental reservation prior to taking a complimentary shuttle to their pickup point.

Until construction is completed on the new rental car center at the airport, arriving or departing passengers will have to pick up or drop off their vehicle at the nearby rental car lots. Several car rental companies are located on the airport grounds while others are a short distance away. The shuttle services operate 24 hours a day and can be boarded at curbside on the baggage claim level of the airport.

All major car rental companies also have service lots in or near the downtown area. Passengers arriving at the airport may choose to make a pickup reservation at one of these alternate locations and travel downtown by taxi, hotel shuttle, or public transportation. Drivers of rental cars may pick up their vehicle near the airport and drop it off downtown prior to departing for the airport, but all reservations made must include this detail. Individuals may be charged extra for dropping off their car at an alternate location.

Rental car drivers can travel from the airport to downtown New Orleans via either US Highway 61 or Interstate 10. Both freeways are accessible from Airport Road. Highway 61 takes drivers eastbound and merges with I-10 approximately 1 1/2 miles northwest of the central business district. Drivers heading west toward Baton Rouge can take Airport Road to I-10 and enter on the westbound ramp.

Visitors to New Orleans may wish to store some of their personal items at the airport before taking the shuttle to their designated car rental location. The baggage stowage facility is located on the lower level of the arrivals hall.
